North Georgia Cabin Rental Guest Activities

    The train route consists of a 26-mile round trip along the beautiful Toccoa River. This railroad was built over 100 years ago and is the only mainline railroad excursion service based in North Georgia. The Blue Ridge Scenic Railway ticket office is located at 241 Depot Street in the heart of downtown Blue Ridge, Georgia.

Toccoa River, North Georgia
The Toccoa River is one of the most popular trout fishing destinations in North Georgia. It stretches nearly 60 miles from its headwaters near the town of Suches to where it crosses the state line into Tennessee at McCaysville in Fannin County. Along the way, Lake Blue Ridge interrupts the river's flow. The lake is what gives the river its two different faces. Above Lake Blue Ridge, the Toccoa River resembles a typical North Georgia trout stream. Below the lake, Blue Ridge Dam regulates the river's flow the result is an exceptionally good tailwater fishery. Toccoa Lodge is located between the Lake Blue Ridge dam and McCaysville.

One great thing about the Toccoa for fly-fishers is plenty of casting room. Unlike most Georgia trout streams, which are narrow and overgrown with mountain laurel and rhododendron bushes just waiting to grab an errant back cast, the upper Toccoa has plenty of room, even for the neophyte fly-rodder. Easy wading, plenty of fish, and lots of casting space are the perfect ingredients for introducing a newcomer to the sport.

Mountaintown Creek is without a doubt one of North Georgia's most beautiful, wilderness trout streams. Don't let the word “Creek” mislead you. This creek is as wide as the Upper Toccoa River and has the natural beauty of the most secluded parts of the Toccoa River. The headwaters of Mountaintown Creek flow out of the Cohutta Wilderness providing cool, clear, nutrient rich, trout water. The huge boulders create noisy, cascading whitewater that is one of the most picturesque creek settings in all of North Georgia.

This portion of the stream is privately stocked, plus there is a good population of native brown's and rainbow. Lake Blue Ridge is one of the most picturesque lakes in North Georgia. Lakeside Escape is located on the shores of the lake and has its own boat dock. Cohutta Wilderness
Almost 70 square miles of North Georgia wilderness is surrounded by a drive many refer to as the Cohutta Loop. For the outdoor enthusiast, this is heaven. The drive provides access to the largest wilderness area east of the Mississippi, abounds with walking trails and wildlife, and features occasional campgrounds as it follows the perimeter of the wilderness.

Chattahoochee National Forest
There are over 450 miles of trails, more than 1,600 miles of "road," and 2,200 miles of rivers and streams within the boundaries of the Chattahoochee National Forest. It is the southern extreme for many northern species. Much of the beauty of North Georgia is tucked away just a short walk from a major road.

Whitewater Rafting
The Ocoee River was host to the 1996 Olympic whitewater venue. Two five mile sections of big waves, continuous rapids, trails and other family outdoor activities make the Olympic Park one of the most exciting day trips for our North Georgia cabin renters.
